St Peter's festival hailed as a great success
|

St Peter's congregation celebrated the life and death of its patron saint today, in a special evening service.
On Friday 29th June we celebrated Petertide. Our Patronal Festival is always a very special occasion and this year the Vicar produced a wonderful Service with appropriate hymns and readings. The Mass setting was Missa Brevis by Kodaly and our Director of Music organised a large choir to lead our singing.
Alice Hudson, Head Teacher of Twyford Church of England High School, preached a sermon based on the example St Peter, and Madeleine Morse provided appropriate prayers, reflecting on the life of our Patron Saint.

St Peter's original name Simon comes from the Hebrew language meaning hearkening and listening. He was the brother of the Apostle Andrew.
According to the gospels (Mark, Luke, John), Jesus renamed him Petros (meaning rock).
He was a Galilean fisherman and one of the twelve disciples of Jesus.
The Liturgy of the Hours records June 29 , AD 69 as his date of death.
St Peter's, Ealing was originally called St Andrews, but it was changed to prevent confusion with the nearby Methodist St Andrews. |
