Young People at St Peter's

Crèche

We run a crèche for children up to 3yrs old every Sunday during the Parish Mass staffed by volunteers. It is located in the Lady Chapel and the service is audible to people who stay in there with their children.

Tuesday Tots Lunch Club

Held every tuesday lunchtime at 12.45 after the 12.15 service, it is a simple lunch and playtime. There is no compulsion to attend the service.

Junior Church

Youth bannerSt Peter's values the children of its congregation as full members of the church community. The Junior Church, as affirmed in its Mission Statement, aims to help the children to understand how much God loves them, to teach them the Christian story through a wide variety of activities, which they find enjoyable and interesting, to nurture them in the Christian Faith, and to show them that they are full and valued members of the Church.

The Junior Church meet in the church hall at 10.00am on Sundays during term time, in two age groups. Each Sunday's session has a theme, based on the Sunday readings, the season of the Church's year, or a particular aspect of the Christian faith. It is developed using a variety of activities, such as story telling, acting, music, drawing, painting, cooking , and craft.

About 10.40 am, the children join the main congregation for the Peace, Eucharistic Prayer and Communion (or a blessing), after which they return to the hall for final activities and prayers. Parents join them in the hall at the end of the main service, about 11.10 am. On one Sunday each term, the children take part in an All-Age Mass, and attend the whole service.

Baptized children aged six and over, if they and their parents wish it, are admitted to receive Holy Communion after a simple course of preparation.

The Junior Church Mosaic

Junior Church Mosaic

This beautiful mosaic can be viewed in all it's glory in the Junior Church corner of the church. It took the children over a term to complete.

The stone tesserae represent the children working together in harmony to create their church. The picture was divided into smaller squares, so each child could interpret their own piece of the picture. They stuck the tesserae (made from ceramic bathroom tiles) down on to a mirror image section of the printed picture with Pritt stick. Each square was reversed onto the big board into a bed of tile cement, the paper removed and then grouted. Final touches included adding the 'stained glass' windows and gilding the cross.
